This website was built by 'Friends of Bwindi' (previously 'Friends of Bwindi Orphanage'), a UK-based charitable
organisation, to support
the work of 'Bwindi Orphans Development Center' (BODEC). Unfortunately our organisation is no longer able to support BODEC
and therefore
the website has been removed.
We will continue to support local groups and individuals.

The organisation is headed by the board of directors-nine (9) who elect the executive committee – five (5) after every two years (2 years), the staff – eight (8) and support staff – three (3).
The organisation has three staff who works on voluntary basis i.e. the assistant Co-ordinator, programme officer and the artist manager.
Only three groups of children are viable for recruitment and they include;
·Double orphans.
·Single orphans.
·Vulnerable children (those with parents but face/suffer same problems like total orphans).
·Children of any religion are welcome at Bwindi Orphans Development Centre.
Most orphans lost their parents because of HIV/AIDS and some are HIV Positive (those born with it).
Most vulnerable children are victims of poverty caused by high levels of illiteracy among their parents and backwardness/remoteness of the area.
The children most in need of our services are identified through;
·Background surveys
·Field outreach
·Through local and church leaders.
·Physical analysis/interviewing and critical observation
